Selection of plant species for the Casa Tecno is in progress

Tests are in progress to determine the ideal plant species to use in the walls and green roofs of the "Casa Tecno: Vivienda Social Sustentable" (Techno House: Sustainable Social Housing) which is being built on the facilities of Corfo's CTEC technology park in the Pudahuel district, where the performance of the technical solutions generated by the GWR project for the reuse of domestic gray water will be assessed.

Dr. Esteban Quijada, director of the project, indicated in the radio show Frecuencia Pública of Usach Radio that the tests will be concluded by the end of September, when the model home of two floors and 55 m² will be built and its gray water reuse systems will be fully operational.

Dr. Quijada stressed the need to create a culture of gray water reuse to mitigate the water crisis the country is experiencing after 13 years of scarce rainfall, which motivates the work of the GWR Project to develop efficient, low-cost solutions that can be installed in homes and buildings.

In practical terms, 65% of domestic sewage water is considered gray water which could be reused. This is a significant figure if we consider that a typical family uses 170 liters of drinking water per person per day.
