February 2: World Wetlands Day
This year's theme is "Wetlands and Human Well-Being," which aims to raise awareness of the links between the health of the world's wetlands and aspects such as physical, mental, and environmental health.
March 21 is the International Day of Forests
The theme for International Day of Forests 2024 is "Forests and Innovation: New Solutions for a Better World", Forests are home to 80% of all known amphibian species and contain over 50% of the world's soil and vegetation carbon stock.
March 22 is World Water Day
The theme of World Water Day 2024 is "Water for Peace." Currently, 2.2 billion people lack access to safely managed drinking water, including 115 million who drink surface water (WHO/UNICEF, 2023).
April 22: Earth Day
Every year, the world loses 10 million hectares of forest, an area the size of Iceland. Human induced changes to nature, such as deforestation, changes in land use, intensive agricultural and livestock production, and the growing illegal wildlife trade, can accelerate the destruction of our planet.
June 8: Ocean Day
Oceans produce at least 50% of our planet's oxygen and absorb approximately 30% of the carbon dioxide humans produce, which cushions the impact of global warming. Visit the official website for information on this year's planned activities.
June 17 is the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought
The theme of this year's International Day to Combat Desertification is "United for the Earth: Our Legacy and Our Future," which identifies desertification, land degradation, and drought as the main dangers to the planet.
October 10: The fourth version of ExpoAgua
A day dedicated to analyzing the country's water situation and promoting collaboration among organizations and sectors generating innovative solutions to achieve water security.
